⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ JJ is one of the best coaches I’ve ever had. I signed up to improve my swimming, but I left with something much more valuable—confidence. JJ has the heart of a true teacher. He’s patient, encouraging, and has an incredible ability to explain things in a way that’s easy to understand. Whenever I became anxious or overwhelmed in the water, he knew exactly how to calm me down and help me regain my confidence. After moving from Hawaii to San Diego, I realized just how much his coaching impacted me. Swimming in La Jolla’s cold water, waves, kelp, and curious seals was a completely different experience! I found myself hearing JJ’s voice in my head: “Relax, slow your breathing, and trust your stroke.” Those lessons stayed with me and helped me push through the fear. JJ didn’t just teach me how to swim—he taught me how to stay calm under pressure and believe in myself. That’s a lesson that extends far beyond the water. If you’re looking for a coach who genuinely cares about his students and knows how to build both skill and confidence, I highly recommend JJ. Mahalo for everything you taught me. I’ll always be grateful.
I always wanted to learn how to swim. JJ is one of the best instructors that teaches you in the ocean where it really counts. He is very friendly, patient, and layed back which makes learning more comfortable. Swimming is both a physical and mental thing...with mindset and positive attitude training which JJ does with "Aloha" spirit. The only regret I have is not taking lessons from him sooner. I definitely recommend him!
JJ is the best teacher! I’ve had struggles with water for decades, and in JJ’s word water phobia. TL;DR: within 5 classes, I was able to learn free style ( still beginner ), and swim to places with 30 feet deep ( without knowing it myself), and most importantly I learnt how to float on my back( believe me I had severe fear on that one). JJ is very laid back, he teaches a mindset instead of just techniques. In his words, techniques comes after mindset change. He is a great, genuine, friendly teacher that good for both beginners and advanced students ( I met some of his advanced students too). Best things happened to me during this whole pandemic!
My wife and I spent 2 months in Oahu. We took 2 x 30 minute lessons with JJ weekly. I started out not knowing how to swim at all and by the time I left Oahu, I was able to swim 300 ft non stop. It allowed me to feel much more comfortable snorkeling in deep open water and swim out from a beach with dolphins. If it wasn't for JJ I wouldn't have been able to enjoy Hawaii to its full extent
My Boyfriend and I are very pleased to have JJ as our swim instructor. We started lesson with him in Jan 2021 and now its end of Feb 2021. Before starting with JJ I was afraid to go into water above my belly button and had fear of water. Today we went into the deep of the water and i was floating and was able to swim back and forth to him and the shore. This simply sums up how great JJ is. He is the man to go if you want to learn to swim. He is very patient and his teaching style is very understandable and clear and concise. I was never confused about what JJ said. He is very professional and able to get you to where you need to be go. He emphasizes good form. He always has a positive calm altitude and carries a chuckle with him. He will push you, and challenge you to do better each time and encourage you. We cannot be more happier with JJ. We had the pleasure to run into some of his students and you will see the gratefulness on his students faces and from their verbal testimonies. He has great relationship with everyone and he really has passion to teach everyone how to swim well. Thank you JJ and we are very grateful.
