I'd been waiting for Hodad's for a while, so I went to the downtown restaurant thinking it would have less patrons (correct thinking). I got the Cheeseburger and Fries, and both were really good - the only contention I have is there were too many pickles in on the burger, so it took away a lot of the taste of the burger, so I just pulled them out (no biggie). Overall, really good!
A very cool burger joint that is channelling the surfer beach vibes to the city. The burgers are very large, our family was waylaid by the size of the portions. The fries/ring combo is recommended; all the food here is very well made and this combo shows off the impressive skills in the kitchen. The burgers are worth driving across town to eat. It is weird when reviewing places when trying to gauge the 'atmosphere'. This place does not have 'atmosphere', which doesn't quite describe Hodad's. This place has 'character'. It you are looking for atmosphere, this place only has plywood boothes covered in stickers while the rainbow of rock from swamp and blues to progressive and psychedelic is playing. Worth a visit.
We ate a late lunch here. Reviewers indicated portions were larger, so we ordered the mini cheeseburgers. I also added a basket of fries. For the two of us, this seemed to be plenty of food for us. We were also offered ranch or BBQ sauce for the fries. We took one of each. The burgers were simple yet very good. The fries were like small wedges and were fantastic. I didn’t try the ranch, but the BBQ sauce was flavorful with just a bit of heat. As for the restaurant itself, it wasn’t quite my style, but that’s just my opinion. If you want a quick bite, though, the food is worth stopping for.
Hodad’s Downtown is consistently great. The burgers, fries, onion rings, etc are always delicious. My order is taken quickly and my food arrives soon after. I’m a hearty eater and I struggle to finish eating my meal. The portions are generous. A word of warning, the double burgers are simply huge. Maybe as tall as a beer bottle. Great selection of beers as well. UPDATE: This is gonna sound crazy but if you enjoy Tuna Melts, you have to give the one here a try. Best Tuna Melt I've ever had! I also can recommend the chili.
I had been to Godard’s before and their burgers and really good. Best shake I’ve had in my life to this day! Love that the downtown location is a lot easier to find seating and parking and a lot less busy than the OB location. This was my first time to the Dt location. I was really craving onion rings and they did not disappoint. They’re really generous with their sauces. The BBQ sauce here is better than the BBQ place I had just had lunch at. Their ranch is really good too. If you like a big onion ring with a good breading to onion ratio I recommend them. Serving size is really generous too. As with most DT locations lots of unhoused folks around. There was rowdy crowds chanting really loudly outside too. Not great for families but doable. More of a young, college, hip, casual spot. Other than that you should check it out if you’re in the area and craving a great burger! Get a shake you’ll thank me later!
